Ceylon is done being told what to do. Despite a lifetime of effort and trust, she was betrayed by the man she believed was her father. Even worse, the love of her life was taken from her. Now, aligned with her once-enemy guild, Ceylon risks everything to free Malachi. But when he upends their rescue attempt, Ceylon is forced to acknowledge there's only one thing that will keep everyone safe: the death of the new king.

Only, it's not a simple assassination. United with dark mages and the pervasive church, the king waits for Ceylon—his plan to take over the Northern Continent hinging on Ceylon as his sacrifice. As the kingdoms around her start to fall, and unable to contact Malachi, Ceylon scrambles to leverage her magic and build a fight against the king.

With Malachi dangerously close to the influence of her enemy and the King's Guard fast closing in, Ceylon must kill the king before he finds her and destroys what little she still cares about. But there might be more than one evil force lurking in Yvelle...

I acknowledge that I live and work on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee Peoples. I am thankful to those of the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples who have--and continue to--care for these lands here and across the province. To this day, Indigenous people in this region and beyond continue to face oppression, inequality, and violence as a result of historic and ongoing colonialism. Though these lands are protected by the Dish with One Spoon agreement, settlers and institutions continue to fail to uphold their responsibilities. In order to change, we must understand the gruesome history and stand in allyship with Indigenous peoples through action.
